The Taft Public Library provides programs and materials in a variety of formats to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural needs of the citizens of Taft and the surrounding area.

About the Taft Public Library

The Taft Public Library is proud to serve the City of Taft. We offer a variety of events and classes for all ages. We provide computers, wireless internet, copy services and work space for individuals and groups.  Taft Public Library is the center for community information.  We also are a member of the South Texas Library System consortium and provide eBooks to our patrons through Overdrive.org. All are welcome, whether you are studying for an exam or looking for an exciting novel to read. We strive to provide the best possible library experience to everyone who walks through our doors or visits us online.

Your Library Card

Who can get a card
Library cards may be given to any person living in the City of Taft and the surrounding Taft ISD area. Library cards are never deleted and will be updated every 2 years.

How to Get Your Card
In order to get a library card, patron must be 17 years old, or be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or grandparent.  A current Texas drivers’ license or ID is needed, as well as proof of a Taft address.  If the address doesn’t match the one on the drivers’ license or ID, a current bill with address and applicant’s name will be needed as well.

Borrowing Limits
Library patrons are limited to 2 check outs at a time for the first month.  The items may be brought back, and 2 more may be checked out.  If there are no overdue materials or fines during this time, patrons will be able to check out 4 items.  However, no more than 2 DVDs may be checked out for each family or address at a time.

Placing Holds
Patrons in good standing may ask to have books that are currently check out to be placed on hold for them until the book becomes available.

Renewing Your Borrowed Items
Borrowed items may be renewed by calling the library or by coming into the library.  The items will be renewed if their are no unpaid library fines.  No item will be renewed if the patrons owes fines.

Library Fines
Library fines are $0.25 a day for any overdue library book.  Audios and DVDS are $1.00 a day.  No fees are accessed on holidays and week ends.  No overdue fine will be more than $7.50. 

If the material is lost, patron will be required to pay for the lost material and will be unable to borrow materials until all fines are cleared.
